Color guard and marching band, what are they to Hayesville High School? Let’s start with what they are in general. A marching band is a group of musicians who play instruments while marching. The color guard is a group of performers who parade or present their show flags. The two groups work together to entertain the people in the stands. The marching band plays different songs while the color guard performs.
Our Hayesville High School marching band comprises high school and middle school students. Mrs. Dockery, the band teacher, and Ann Gibson, a drum major and a junior, direct them. The marching band appears at the Varsity football games. You can see them in the stands during the quarters and on the field during halftime. While in the stands, they will play a variety of pep tunes, such as Jaws, Industry, or Wyatt Cheer.
Our Hayesville High School color guard is comprised of middle and high school students. Color Guard is entirely new to HHS, but is back after a two-year absence and is back and better than ever. The director and coach is Mrs. Minx. The color guard performs on Fridays along with the marching band during Varsity football games. In the stands, you will find them waving their pom-poms with the marching band during pep tunes, cheering on our team.
Both the marching band and color guard go out to play at away games in places such as Andrews and Murphy. They also plan trips to watch performances by professional marching bands and color guard groups.
