Mr. Hensley is one of our many cherished teachers at Hayesville High School. He is also one of the most supportive and understanding teachers. Mr. Hensley loves to be involved with his community, and his kids even attend Hayesville.
When asked how he started his career in teaching, Hensley said “I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, so the decision wasn’t hard.” Mr. Hensley studied education at Western Carolina University and started teaching History in 2010. Then, from 2014 to 2016, Hensley taught 7th and 8th grade. In 2018, Hensley started teaching both History and Junior and Senior English.
Mr. Hensley is involved in more than just teaching. He also runs the Jam Band club where students explore their music-playing skills. Mr. Hensley says there are a variety of instruments being played in the club. Some instruments you can hear being played are guitars, such as bass or acoustic, and drums. He helps coach football and is the Head Coach for the men’s and women’s track teams.
When asked what some facts about him are, Mr. Hensley said: “I am an outdoorsman, I love to hunt, fish, and go camping. I have a beautiful wife, and two sweet boys”. Mr. Hensley’s wife is one of Hayesville’s speech pathologists, and his sons are in first and fifth grade.
Mr. Hensley has impacted many students during their school careers. When asked how Hensley has impacted her life, Emma Buckner says “Mr. Hensley has taught me many lessons in life. One of the most important lessons being that patience is key. You can’t get anywhere without having patience for the people around you.”
