October was named National Bullying Prevention Month in 2006. Since then, October has been used to recognize the effects that bullying has on children, such as school avoidance, loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety, depression, and in some severe cases, suicide. Bullying Prevention Day, also known as Unity Day, is observed on the third Wednesday of October, and people are encouraged to wear orange to show their support. Orange is the color for anti-bullying because it is associated with the month and autumn seasons. It is also associated with safety and visibility.
To show their support, the HHS staff wore Orange today. Our school is very strict about its bullying policies and strives to ensure that every student gets a hassle-free, bully-free education.
