Derick Lugo, author of “The Unlikely Thru-Hiker: An Appalachian Trail Journey,” turned his 6-month hiking experience into a book. Now he shares more insight on the adventures by going to local schools to present his story and to inspire others to have their own adventures.

Derick has visited Hayesville school multiple times in the past, and he recently came by again to share some big news with the Hayesville High School kids. In this presentation, he discussed his experiences in hiking and the process of making his books. He talked about how he is finishing his new book about his hike in the long trails in Vermont. Derick also has future plans to hike the Pacific Crest Trail next year as well as biking across the country from California to New York. Hayesville high schoolers are thankful to Derick Lugo for taking the time to share about his experiences and to hopefully see him again to hear more about his adventures.
