If you’ve ever walked through the halls of our school and stopped by the Health Science classes, you’ve likely met Mrs. Amy Trout. With 13 years of teaching experience and a background in nursing, she brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the classroom.
Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Trout worked as a nurse, a career choice inspired by her fascination with the heart. She studied at UNC Chapel Hill for her bachelor’s degree before continuing her nursing education at Haywood Community College. While she initially pursued teaching because it fit well with her family’s schedule, it quickly became more than just a job—it became a passion.
“I love helping kids realize they also have a passion for healthcare,” she says. And she does just that. Through her health science classes, Mrs. Trout introduces students to the medical field, helping them develop skills and knowledge that could lead to future careers in healthcare.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Trout is just as active. She’s left-handed, enjoys exercising, and has coached volleyball for ten years, along with track and basketball. Her commitment to both sports and education showcases her dedication to mentoring students in all aspects of life.
Mrs. Trout’s enthusiasm for healthcare and teaching is contagious, making her a beloved part of our school. Whether she’s explaining medical concepts or encouraging students to explore their own passions, she truly embodies the heart of health science education.
