Last week, on September 12th, the Hayesville Yellow Jackets played two back-to-back games against the Georgia Force Christian Blue Knights, playing the junior varsity game against them, followed by the varsity game right afterwards.
The Georgia Force Christian Blue Knights are a team made up of students who are home-schooled as well as students who attend private schools within North Georgia, to form a team that plays other nearby public schools. Last year, their varsity team went 10-2, even beating Hayesville with a final score of 7-6. This year, before playing against Hayesville, their varsity team had a perfect record of 4-0, while the junior varsity team was only 1-2.
Coach Blake McClure, our special teams coordinator, commented that the Yellow Jackets were hoping to get revenge for last year. The junior varsity game started at 5 PM, at Frank R. Long memorial stadium. The junior varsity team ended up putting up an impressive performance with a final score of 57-22.
The varsity game began only forty-five minutes after the junior varsity game ended, At 7:45 PM. The game started with Hayesville scoring a 65 yard rushing touchdown on the first play after the kick-off. Six minutes later they scored again on a 57 yard rushing touchdown. By the end of the game, the varsity team put up a total of 35 points to Georgia Force Christian Blue Knights’ 21 points.
The coaches at Hayesville were really glad to see such a great performance from both the offense and defense by the junior varsity team and varsity team alike. In an interview after the game Mason Parker, the starting nose guard on the junior varsity team, mentioned how it felt great to win both games, as well as to have the junior varsity team finally have a record of 2-2. And their hopes to continue to do well in the remainder of the season.
Starting on Thursday and Friday, the junior varsity and varsity teams respectively both look forward to their next games against Robbinsville, hoping to continue both winning streaks. We look forward to seeing the Yellow Jackets continue to play as well as their hopeful success.
