When Grace Gibson heard her on the announcement for the girls on homecoming court, she was both thrilled and surprised! “I was so excited to hear my name on the announcements and to be honest, I was surprised!” she shared. For Grace, being on homecoming court means more than just the title and the events that go with it, it’s about becoming the role model she looked up to while she was a little girl. Grace says, “Growing up, I’ve seen so many precious girls walk on homecoming court, and I really want to be the example that little girls look to on that Friday night like I did when I was younger.”
Grace believes that homecoming is a special tradition that brings the community together. From spirit week to the excitement of the football game and the homecoming court, it’s a time for families and especially students to celebrate and connect. “It gives students a chance to see their classmates on the court. The spirit week leading up to homecoming is always such a fun way for students to be involved and show school spirit.” Grace is especially excited to take pictures with the marching band before she heads up to the field herself. “They’re all so precious to me and I want lots of pictures to remember this night with them.” She is also very excited to walk with her dad and her attendant, Abbie Scerri. “I love them both so much.” Grace says. Her favorite homecoming tradition is being able to bring an attendee to walk alongside her, “this gives us a chance to inspire a younger student to be on the court someday or to just show them how amazing growing up and being a senior is like.”
When we asked her what advice she would give to younger students who might want to be on the court someday, her reply was to be kind to absolutely everyone, and get involved with tons of student groups like clubs, sports, and social events. Grace’s biggest supporters through all of this are her dad, and her sister, Ann. “They are always there for me and have helped shape me into the person that got voted onto the court in the first place.” Her friends and family have been very excited and proud of her, which means a lot. She would love to thank her dad, mom, Ms. Libby Upchurch, Ann Gibson, Ginger Scerri, Christy Caruso, and Mrs. Katelyn for supporting her through this.
