Our math teacher likes superheroes? Mr. White is a math teacher going on his second year of teaching and is the sponsor of our Superhero club here at Hayesville High. He teaches Math 3 and 4, and he has been teaching for 12 years, including time at Robbinsville and Andrews. He also coaches our wrestling team and was able to send two people to state last season.
When asked how his experience has been so far teaching at Hayesville, Mr. White says, “I have enjoyed my time so far as a Yellow Jacket,” and “It has been similar to teaching at other schools.” When you walk into Mr. White’s room you see many posters and fun things on his board. From my personal experience, it creates a fun environment to learn.
When asked about what his favorite part about being a teacher is, Mr. White said, “My favorite part about being a teacher is erasing my students’ preconceived notions about math classes and math in general. Almost all of my students have said at some point “I hate math” or “Math hates me.” Neither of those are true. We’ve all had bad experiences in a math class, but those bad experiences don’t have to keep occurring. What we come to find out isn’t that we hate math, we simply hate the way that math makes us feel whenever we don’t know the answer.” Mr. White has already made a big impact in just his second year at Hayesville High, and the Yellow Jacket community is excited to see the difference he’ll continue to make in the years ahead.
