When Kayla Brown heard her name being called for homecoming court, she couldn’t help but jump up and down with excitement. For Kayla, being on the court means more than just getting recognized, it’s a sign that she’s had a positive impact on those around her. “It makes me feel like I’ve had a positive impact on people around me.” She says, showing how much the honor personally means to her. Kayla believes the homecoming court plays an important role in bringing the school community together. “It lets people come together to choose who they think deserves this opportunity.”
Even though she is looking forward to dressing up and “looking like a princess”, Kayla values the opportunity to be something bigger, to share this special experience with the amazing girls on the court. Her favorite homecoming tradition is sharing these moments with her family, friends, and the rest of the court. They are making this journey even more memorable for her. For Kayla, it’s not just about the event itself, but the friendships and shared excitement that goes along with it.
When we asked her what advice she would give to younger girls who would like to be on the court someday, Kayla emphasized kindness. “Always be kind to everyone because not only do people notice but it makes you feel like a better person and it always brings joy to a person’s day when someone is kind to them. You never know when a person just needs a little act of kindness. Your little act of kindness could change someone’s whole day around.” She said thoughtfully. Throughout this journey, her biggest supporter has been her mom, who has been by her side throughout everything. Kayla expressed deep gratitude for her family and friends encouragement and support but saved her biggest thanks to her mom’s incredible support. With her positive outlook, Kayla embodies the true meaning of homecoming, celebrating our community, kindness, and connection.
