In 2009, a man named Jake Parker needed a way to improve his inking skills and find a positive drawing habit, and even bring the art community together through hashtags, posts, and schools.
Inktober is a drawing challenge spanning over 31 days until Halloween. Prompts are released on September 1st and consist of a variety of words from different categories. Drawers have a month to use their creative minds to come up with ideas. They work hard on their sketchbooks during their own time using self expression and interests, along with references and sketches to create a full and completed drawing. People can combine words to challenge themselves to create a more complex product. The sketchbooks are put on display at the fall art show to present the very timely process it took for this endeavor. It’s so amazing to see the way people view the prompts.
