There are many spring sports here at HHS but there is one that I particularly wanted to spotlight. The upcoming track season has been anticipated by athletes for months. Some athletes have been competing in different events since middle school and for some, it is their first year. There are different events at a track meet and there are three main groups of events. There are runners, throwers, and jumpers. Since we are such a small school, many athletes compete in multiple events. Some even compete in other spring sports like baseball, softball, golf, or soccer.

Runners have two different kinds of events, sprinting and distance running. There are also hurdles which are a mix of jumping and running. For jumping, there is the high jump, triple jump, and more.  For throwers, there is discus and shotput. Freshman Kylah Eller runs the 100 and 200 meters. She throws the shot put and does the high jump. Although she does multiple events she says that running is her favorite. Senior Cameron Gray shares that he prefers running in relays although he also runs the 800 and the mile.

The women’s and men’s teams have both been preparing for the upcoming season since early February. This season they have meets almost every Wednesday. Their first meet is on March 8th in Andrews. Their last regular season meet is on April 19th and their tournaments start on April 26th. There are home meets scheduled for March 15th and April 5th. Make sure you make plans to come to support your Jackets!
