In this photograph, showing the inside of Hayesville High’s lush greenhouse, you can see students hard at work preparing trays of seeds to be grown into delicious or decorative vegetation. Walking into the humid building, you are bombarded with the smells of the rich soil and the growing greenery, as you try to avoid the hanging plants, with their long stems trailing down just low enough to brush against your head if you aren’t paying attention. This environment is where these students spend most of their time within the Horticulture class, going up to the greenhouse halfway through the class every day to feed the plants that reside there.
This picture portrays a student very focused on his drawing. He has his earbuds in listening to music in the zone. He is focused on shading on the eyes. With every pencil stroke he gets more enticed in his work. He is cautious and uses multiple techniques to make this drawing look like the photo. The medium of art being used is graphite. He is in Art I with Mrs. Engelmann.
Mr. Modica’s 3rd block class studies in the HHS Media Center. They are currently studying ancient Rome but are finishing that chapter this week and moving on. So, today they are all completing missing work, and studying for the final unit test. They sit quietly and work as they know this test will be hard. Some are helping others, and most have their earbuds in trying to get things done.
In Mr. Hensley’s Honors Appalachian Studies class, we learn a lot about the lives of people who lived in the Smoky Mountains. We’ve learned how the people faced hardships and overcame challenges, as well as the environment. We learned about how people would “clear cut“ trees, and how where we live almost became a desert. Mr. Hensley showed us accurate films to help us learn, and we also went in person to see an accurate depiction of a Native American house. Now, Mr. Hensley is teaching us about the Civil War in the Appalachian Mountains, and how the war and politics affected this area. Honors Appalachian Studies is interesting, fun, and informative in learning more in-depth information about where we live.
When preparing for the future, Child Development is a class every student should take. It shows the hardships and responsibilities that come with the joy of parenting. Pictured here is freshman Blaire Hedden with her Real Care Baby, a doll that simulates a newborn. Every student must take care of their Real Care Baby, but don’t let that scare you away! Child Development is a fun class where you get to decorate your own nursery, learn about the stages of pregnancy, and more.
In my photograph of the Spanish II class, two students, Junior Mallory Peck and Sophomore Daylyn Murray, are trying to find the things on their scavenger hunt list. The items on the list are all only in Spanish. Using their knowledge of the Spanish language, they are contemplating what to do next. This photo showcases the interaction from classroom to outside activities to continue their learning experience in an interesting way to keep their attention on the subject at hand.
In the field house, the sound of clanging weights filled the air as athletes pushed themselves to their limits. Sweat dripped down their faces as they lifted, determined to get stronger for the upcoming spring season. Each repetition brought them closer to their goals, fueling their drive and determination.
Every class at HHS is unique in its own way. The perfect example of this is Mr.Moss’ Biology class. In my photo of Mr.Moss’ class, his students were performing a lab based around genetic material and structure. Many lessons in this class contain a lab allowing students to use hands-on learning techniques. For many students, hands-on learning can help them understand and visualize the material that is being taught.
Mrs. Bobbie Jones’ Project Management I has many advantages; it can benefit you by increasing your knowledge of budgeting, helping advance your career and salary, and promoting you accomplishing your goals faster. Many students at Hayesville High School have taken Project Management to receive a Project Management Professions (PMP) Certificate. In the picture shown, you can see that sophomore Colton Bruggers is working on a Quizizz of the stages of Project Management. Digital tools like Quizlet, Quizizz, Kahoot, etc. aid students in reviewing class material.
