Cadence Canup is currently a junior at HHS. She is well known for being an active student in all of her classes. She is always willing to help anyone who needs it without hesitation. Her outgoing personality is what led her to acting. Her love for acting began when she was 14 after she started her first acting classes. Acting came naturally to Cadence and she has continued to flourish within the acting community. Cadence’s step-sister Kaylee, had been in acting classes since she was five, so Cadence already knew how intense the schedule could be. As time went on Cadence worked to gain more experience in acting. One way that she achieved this was by signing up for the Drama Club at HHS during her sophomore year, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Because she has attended Clay County Schools for her entire academic career and has excelled throughout the years, Cadence has made a lasting impression on the students and teachers at HHS. According to HHS teacher Jonathan Hensley, who taught Cadence in English and Appalachian Studies, “She always completes assignments on time and contributes consistently during class discussions.” Cadence is always open to working with her peers and contributes during classwork and keeps discussions going,” says Hensley.
Cadence’s ability to work with other people has allowed her to easily adapt to different acting jobs. She can work alongside other people without a feeling of awkwardness while talking to them, which is a crucial factor in acting. According to Cadence, having communication and social skills is important when acting because you have to be able to work with new people frequently. One way that she learned this was by working at the Peacock Performing Arts Center. She has had roles in many of the plays performed at the Peacock Center, most recently performing in January. Cadence is planning on attending Savannah College of Art and Design to pursue a professional career in acting. SCAD offers many different programs to anyone that is wanting to pursue a life in acting. There is no doubt with her great potential, that soon you may see Cadence on your screens.
