With the loud chaos of art class chatter and music playing in the background, Junior Brontë Bigham works carefully and diligently using her favorite choice of medium, charcoal. She puts time and effort into the project to give it the realistic touch that she often brings into her work. But like most artists, sometimes art can be frustrating Brontë explained, “I love seeing the finished product and I love getting excited for what I am about to do but when I’m actually doing it I get frustrated sometimes because I want it to look perfect.”
HHS art teacher Mrs. Engelmann has taught Brontë art since sophomore year, “She not only used charcoal, but she did a self-portrait, which is difficult for many students. Her work shows maturity, ambition, and talent. I know she has a bright future ahead in the world of art should she choose to pursue it.” Not only does Mrs. Engelmann praise her artwork and how she works so creatively, but her friends also admire her art. Brontë’s friend junior Emma Buckner admires her art because she seems to just get every detail right. With friends and teachers supporting Brontë, she has shown growth through her art from her first time stepping into class.
But art class isn’t the only place that Brontë enjoys and experiences creativity. At home, she spends her time listening to her dad play electric guitar or drawing in her room at her professional art table but that is not the only thing she does at home, she also has been practicing tattoos. Brontë explained, “I have been wanting tattoos for as long as I can remember. My dad has a lot of them and I told him I wanted to be a tattoo artist when I grew up and so for my birthday he got me a tattoo gun and I just started using it.” She is currently practicing lining and shading on fake skin at home because she feels like this could be a future career option for her.
Art has been a constant cycle for Brontë whether that is the art form of dance, music, or drawing. She also enjoys nature and all the outdoor activities. She has multiple pairs of roller skates that she enjoys taking out on a nice day to go skating around where she lives. She also goes to the skateboarding park with her friends during the summer to skateboard and have fun. Her fondest memory was at Meeks Park in Blairsville, GA she remarked, “I remember one time when I went to Meeks skatepark and I dropped one of my roller skates for the first time and face planted but I ended up trying again and I finally go it I felt really cool.”
Brontë Bigham has many talents but the one that shines the most is how she is as a friend. Senior Alexis Reese has been friends with Brontë since sophomore year and she said, “Brontë is a very caring and loving person. She is down to earth and has a great sense of humor. She is inspiring and she gives me motivation.” For me, Brontë has been the friend that gives me advice that no one else could or can. She has always been the friend you can talk to and lean on for support. But she also makes sure you always have fun and are always smiling with her sense of humor. Brontë is not only talented but also a person who brings light into the world through who she is.
