Throughout your high school years, you come across many different opportunities and chances to do things you are interested in or want to learn about. I interviewed Senior Lakota Shelton, also known as Star, about the multiple activities and accomplishments she’s made so far. Starting from elementary school, she noticed a proliferation in sports. “I’ve always loved the adrenaline rush it gives me. It’s a proficient way to spend your time. Sports have also always been a way to keep my mind off of other things going on in my life. It also made me strong mentally and physically.” Star exclaims. Star has participated in two different sports, wrestling and soccer. “I like soccer because of the activity, such as chasing after the ball and gliding through the other team to kick in a goal,” Star says, “and I like wrestling because it’s not a team sport. It’s all up to you to win or lose.”
Sports aren’t the only thing Star is involved in. Art also plays a part in her life. “In art, I like to use different mediums such as clay, graphite, and colored pencils,” she comments. She enjoys being able to release her creativity and relax. It’s also a time when she can interact and make good memories with friends. But sometimes within those moments, there will be difficult trials while making art. It takes a lot of time, effort, and attention to detail. “Art can be difficult because I am very impatient and I want things to look as good as possible.” she says, “but within that issue it’s taught me how to remain calm and find my way through.” Mrs Englemann, the HHS art teacher added in some words about Star, “She does get frustrated sometimes and wants to move on to a different project but all you have to do is give her a little push with motivation and she’s on her way!”
The Class of 2024 is all in the midst of senior year experiencing many contrasting experiences. It’s the time when you are transitioning into the adult world. Some students are applying to colleges while others are still figuring out what they want to do with their lives. In Star’s case, she wants to go to community college to get her associate’s degree in medical sonography. Star explains, “There really isn’t any specific reason I want to be a medical sonographer. It’s just a good job that pays well and it’ll get me through.”
