October 31st, besides being Halloween, was also Katelin Davis’ last day working as our receptionist here at Hayesville High School. Over four years ago, Katelin Davis first started working here, and as she described in an interview, she felt nervous and like she didn’t know anybody here; but now she feels like she could name at least 300 of the students here, and even something about all of their lives. When asked about her new job and no longer being the receptionist here at the high school, she described it as bittersweet, glad for the opportunity and the chance to be the discovery program coordinator for Pre-K and Kindergarten but also missing all the connections made with the staff, students, and parents alike.
For Katelin’s last day, stickers of possums were handed out to students along with the instructions to give them to her if they got a chance, and by the end of the day she had at least 250 stickers and probably even more. It was a reference to when a possum managed to get into her car, and the staff have been joking about it since; and Katelin found all the stickers funny as well. She also said that she’s sure that her new replacement as our receptionist, Flannery Hughes, will do wonderfully and hopefully even be better than her. Flannery described her excitement as well and a little bit of nervousness with the new position but still hopes to do great things also. When asked what she’d like to say to everyone, she said “Thank you to the students and thank you to the staff, for welcoming me in four years ago for being a part of something great, I will miss each and every one of you, and Go Jackets!”
