The Varsity Football team faces difficult challenges, but they haven’t let it stop them from leading the team to successive victories. The team has a 4-2 winning streak right now, and things look promising. The players have worked very hard to maintain their winning streak this season. The coaches and players are getting ready to enter the conference confidently.
The assistant varsity coach, Jonathan Hensley, says “This is one of the best starts to a season I’ve ever had in the 13 years I’ve been here. The guys are very interested in what we’re doing as a team and passionate about it.”
The team has encountered several difficulties; however, they continue to advance. Chad McClure, the head coach, claims that the squad has had to focus particularly hard on its “small details” and that tackling and blocking are two major areas where they still need to improve. The team intends to continue working on the little aspects every day and their goal is to improve at something every day.
The pressures continue to grow as the days and games progress. The Murphy Bulldogs have always been a tough opponent for us, in fact, our last victory against them was back in 2006. Some students believe this is due to the refs not calling lousy plays. Even through the tough loss, the Yellow Jackets still keep their heads up and don’t lose hope. The jackets remain confident. Sophomore Tre Graves says, “Always stay positive and do your best. When you trust in God everything will work out for you, one way or another.” Come out and support the Jackets on October 6th as they face Swain County at home beginning at 7:30 pm.
