This season the HHS Cross Country teams strive to work hard and improve with every meet. HHS has both a men’s and women’s teams. On October 14th , 2023the high school team headed to Swain for the conference meet. The high school boys placed 2nd in our conference with 63 points with the help of Noah Carter, Landon Hughes, Jackson Dye, Elio Murrilo, Cooper Matheson, and Zach Townsend. The high school girls placed 3rd in our conference with 67 points with the help of Sydney Greenstone, Raelynn Wood, Lilliani Denton, Breanna Abrams, Olivia Free, Jadyn Kimber, and Amyna Denton.
I interviewed two runners about how the seasons have been going and their personal experiences. Sophomore Noah Carter shared his thoughts. “I feel like this cross country season has been a strong season and we have runners that are definitely improving. Making it to regionals is an awesome accomplishment made by the whole team, which is a chance to go to state.” I asked what he sees in the future for the team: “In the future, this team will be strong and fun.” Noah also expressed that some of the strong runners are leaving but he is excited for the improving runners.
Sophomore Raelyn Wood expresses, “that this season has been a pretty good season.” She is happy that she got a good personal record (PR) and cut lots of time from her previous year. She’s also really excited about making it to regionals.
As a member of the Cross Country team I have been really proud of how our team has grown this season. On October 28th we need our Jacket fans to come out to support men’s and women’s high school teams as they make their way to Swain to compete with the region. The men and women have worked hard to make it this far. So, don’t forget to come out and support our high school runners at Swain on October 28th.
****Note****Since the writing of this article, HHS Cross Country Teams completed the Regional Competition with the Men’s Team qualifying for the State Competition in November.
