This season the men’s soccer team has a full roster. In total, the men’s soccer team has sixteen players: four freshmen, six sophomores, two juniors, and four seniors. The men are currently fifth in our Smoky Mountain Conference. Overall on September, 27th they were 3-4. The teams that they already went up against are Swain, Murphy, Tri County, Highlands, Blue Ridge Early College,
Cherokee and Andrews. The men’s team works together and uses strategies to be able to grow as a team. There is lots of teamwork that the boys do in order to be where they are in the season.
I interviewed a couple of people about the men’s soccer team and the experience they see. Athletic Director Michael Cottrell commented, “We had a co-ed team for about 8-9 years, then split to all men five years ago. According to Cottrell, the team is improving, ”I think they are improving everything and I am looking forward to what they can do.”
The men have been working really hard as a team to accomplish their goals. Senior Zach Townsend says, “Our goal this year as a team is to beat our record from last year and qualify for State Playoffs.” Zach mentions,” that their team wants to build up more in the program and encourage more kids to get out on the soccer team.” Zach also shared his perspective on the season,” This year has had its ups and downs.” Zach expressed that they had 2 of the seniors and 3 juniors including a foreign exchange student leave. He feels like they are less talented but are working really hard to pull that up.
The men’s team has lots more growth that they are working on to be able to stay where they are at. The players work hard to be a positive team. They are working together to make this year’s team feel like last year’s team by doing little things to improve. There’s always growth to do and they’ll always try and grow together. The next home game will be against Tri County at 4:00 on October 9th, so come out and support the Yellow Jackets men’s soccer team.
