Seniors celebrate their victory!

Hayesville High School SWARM Club hosted the Powder Puff Volleyball of 2023 on March 10th at 5 p.m. and is open to the public. The admission was $2. All the money from the event will fund the HHS SWARM Club. Mrs. Smith hopes to use the funds to promote student involvement around campus and get supplies for our themed student sections and trophies for the powderpuff games.

Freshmen Powderpuff Team (Carla Beck)

The first two games continued until 25 points were reached, and the championship game was the best two out of three until 15 points. The Seniors wore Black and Gold, Juniors wore Pink, the Sophomores wore blue, and the Freshmen wore white. The first game was Freshmen vs. Seniors. The Seniors won and went to the championship game. The second game was Sophomores vs. Juniors. The Sophomores won and also went to the championship game. After the Sophomores put up a good fight to win, the Seniors won and got the golden volleyball.

Freshman Jack Dorsey asserted that the game was challenging and it wasn’t fun to lose, but he enjoyed the overall experience with his friends and would most definitely do it again. Jack mentioned that he wished the freshmen had more practice and a bracket for the losing teams so there could be more than first place.

Sophomore Slade Crouch mentioned that his team went over expectations and beat the Juniors. Going into the game as the Underdogs, they came in strong against the Seniors, worked together as a team, and had good communication. If Slade could have fixed their technique, it would be their blocking.

Even though the Juniors lost to the Sophomores, Junior Seth Leek still had fun watching and supporting the other teams after they lost. Seth said he liked the camaraderie between the teams, and it was fun getting into people’s heads. Seth stated, “the dressing up part was the best with team colors and face paint because I looked the best, of course.” Seth wished that the team had more practice. They only had one real practice as a whole team because participants didn’t have time, causing them not to be able to play as a team. Seth also stated, “I don’t think I deserved to have a point taken away for our team by arguing with the refs’ calls, I just stated facts, and they didn’t like it. Pretty crazy to me.”

Senior Seth Hedden also enjoyed playing in the powderpuff and said, “I love every minute of it.” Even though the seniors won, Seth would have liked more practice time.

Overall the participants enjoyed the experience, but it seems like most coaches and athletes wanted more practice time. Students had to make time to practice and figure out as a team when they all practice. Even though they had very few practices, our HHS Students fought for what they wanted. Ultimately the Seniors won again!
