Fishing Then and Now

Fishing has been around for about 40,000 years. Fishing can be traced back to prehistoric times. According to hankeringforhistory.com “One of the earliest known examples of fishing is a carved bone from Japan that dates back to between 27,000 and 29,000 BC.” This bone was found in 1957.

In the late 1800s, they used strips of bamboo and thinner to make their rods. Nowadays, fishing is more accessible than back in the day. We now use GPS to find fish and use local spots that we see from people’s social media posts. You can fish in ponds, lakes, rivers, the ocean, etc. There are also many different types of fish to catch, such as catfish, bluegill, swordfish, tuna, trout, etc.

But unfortunately, fishing so much can cause overfishing. Overfishing can cause an imbalance that can erode the food chain and lead to the loss of other marine life. Furthermore, fishing can be a lot of fun to do with your friends and family. Junior Jacob Mcclure said, “I love catching fish with my friends and family.” His favorite fish to catch is bass. Junior Austin Long said, “ I like the challenge of catching fish.” His favorite fish to catch is trout. Junior Wayne Barter said, “I like reeling  the fish in, he also said, ” You need a lot of patience.” Just like Jacob Mcclure, Wayne’s favorite fish is bass too. Summer is coming up soon, and we have really good places to fish, such as Fires Creek and Lake Chatuge.
